By-Laws of the Laurel Wreath
ARTICLE I - Definition of the Society The Laurel Wreath Honor Society is the interdisciplinary honor society of Austin Peay State University. It is comprised of graduate and undergraduate members of exemplary character and superior scholarship. The purpose of LWHS is to recognize academic excellence and to foster cultural appreciation and intellectual activity within the University and surrounding communities
Section 1: A member shall be considered in "good standing" is he/she maintains the minimum GPA of 3.15 overall in addition to the 3.0 in his/her major be a full-time student enrolled for a minimum of twelve (12) hours, and adhere to the attendance policy of the Society as outlined in Article III of the LWHS By-Laws. Section 2: All candidates for induction into the LWHS must pay a one-time initiation fee of $20.00 prior to induction to be considered members. Individuals of exemlary scholarship and academic excellence who are unable to pay the induction fee may have this fee waived by a majority vote of the Executive Officers on a case-by-base basis. Section 3: Newly inducted members shall receive a certificate of membership at the induction ceremony to be held in the Fall of each year. Society pins and graduation regalia shall be made available to each member in good standing at the appropriate times each year. Section 4: The induction ceremony shall be held in the Fall semester of each academic year and shall be conducted by the Vice-President. Candidates for induction must attend the induction ceremony in the Fall to be considered for membership of the Society. Those who cannot attent must be evaluated by the Executive Officers and advisors.
Section 1: Members are expected to attend all meetings throughout the semester. Those who cannot attend must notify the Secretary in writing before the meeting. Those who do not notify the Secretary will have an unexcused absence on their records. Section 2: If any member has three (3) or more unexcused absences on his or her record, that member will be put on the inactive list and membership in the society will be terminated. Membership may be reinstated on a case-by-case basis by appeal to the Executive Officers and advisor of the Society.
Section 1: Elections shall be held in the spring of every year. The election process shall be presided over by the President of the Society. Section 2: Candidates for the Executive Offices may be nominated by any member in good standing of the Society, and advisor, or any Executive Officer. All candidates must meet the minimum requirements for membership to be placed on the ballot. Section 3: The new Officers shall attend a transitional meeting, within two (2) weeks of election, to be conducted by the former officers in which duties and objectives of each office and the Society shall be discussed. Also, each new officer shall be given a copy of the Constitution and the By-Laws of the Society.
